A US State Trooper was almost killed recently when a pick-up truck unexpectedly shot past his car during a routine stop, ripping off the police car’s bumper in the process.

The video above features the moment when a large 40ft lorry smashed into the back of a utility pick up truck, which sent the pick up flying into the path of Trooper Jess Hernandez’s patrol car.

The incident occurred last Friday near Oxford in Iowa, around 6.40am local time, but the dash-cam footage from Trooper Hernandez’s patrol car has only been released this week.

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured in the incident, but we have a feeling that everyone involved needed a new pair of jocks afterwards.

“This is just a glaring example of how close we came to losing Trooper Hernandez, Deputy Hammes, along with Reserve Deputy Pearson,” said Lonny Pulkrabek of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
