Audi made history yesterday by sending its autonomous RS7 Sportback, named Bobby, around Hockenheim’s famous Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg Circuit without a driver behind the wheel…
Last week we brought you a teaser of the autonomous Audi RS7 Sportback in action on a test track, but on Sunday, October 19, Audi sent the car out on the Hockenheimring in Germany for an official run in front of a massive crowd.
The autonomous RS7 features automated steering, brakes, throttle and transmission connected to a computer that uses radio signals, 3D imaging and GPS to ‘see’ where its going.
Bobby managed to reach speeds close to 240km/h on the long straightaway section and it navigated the track without a single error. While it’s impressive to see a driverless car taking to the track, we wonder how Bobby would fare against a real life opponent? Hopefully we’ll find out in the not too distant future.
