George Poteet, the world’s Land Speed Record holder, somehow survived this terrifying 600-km/h crash at the Bonneville Salt Flats in the US earlier this month. ‘Lucky’ isn’t the word…
George Poteet walked away from this incredible 370mph crash with as little as a few scratches earlier this month during a practice run at the Mike Cook’s Bonneville Shootout.
Poteet’s 2000hp “Speed Demon” streamliner, which holds the piston-powered wheel-driven land speed record of 439 mph (706km/h), started veering off course only a few miles from the start line.
Poteet was unable to steady the car, which barrel rolled multiple times before coming to rest. Emergency crews were able to respond to Poteet’s car only 15-seconds after the crash, but thankfully he was conscious and relatively unhurt.
Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for a lot of his car’s bodywork, which was ripped to pieces in a matter of seconds, but at least the safety shell managed to withstand the crushing forces.
How’s that for a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating?
