According to various comments on YouTube the escalator actually broke due to the amount of fans standing on it and their combined weight caused the steps to drop at speed.
While the police didn’t have to worry about moving the hooligans on, we’re sure there were a few sore bodies at the end of the escalator that they had to deal with before going home for the night.
