Great Galway spots…

Spending the weekend in Galway? Not sure what to see and do?

You’re spoiled for choice when it comes to outdoor entertainment in Galway. Whether you’re looking for stunning seaside spots or incredible outdoor adventures, the city and county has it all, making it the perfect place to see out summer 2021.

With that in mind, here are our some quality picks for things to see and do in Galway this weekend.

Explore the Aran Islands

No trip to Galway is complete without sailing out to one of the Aran Islands. Inis Mór, Inish Meáin and Inis Óirr each have their own unique charm and, while you might not have time to visit all three, you should definitely make time to explore one.

If you are pressed for time, Inis Mór is the easiest to get too. It can be accessed by ferry from Rossaveal in Connemara, or via an Aer Arann Islands flight from Inverin. On Inis Mór, there are a number of beaches you can relax and unwind on, and there are bikes available to hire on the island too. Other activities on the island include surfing and a scenic cycle out to Dun Aonghasa, an incredible 14 acre fort that’s well worth seeing as well.

You can find more information on visiting the Aran Islands here.

Go for a stroll in Salthill

If you’re visiting Galway for sandy beaches and fresh sea air, be sure to make time for a stroll along the Salthill Promenade. Stretching across 3km of coastline, you’ll see some spectacular views of Galway Bay and stumble across some incredible beaches too.

And if you are visiting Salthill this Sunday, you could WIN some incredible prizes.

Virgin Mobile have launched their Freedom Mobile Booth which will be popping up in Salthill this Sunday 29 August, and if you track it down you could WIN!

All you have to do is answer the phone when it rings and you could win anything from dry robes, body boards and tents to a brand new mobile phone!

Keep an eye out for the Freedom Mobile Booth in Salthill this Sunday and be sure to answer it if it rings – Freedom is Calling!

Go kayaking on the River Corrib

If you want to see Galway city from a whole new perspective, kayaking along the River Corrib is the ultimate way to see all the sites. This kayaking trip here is a three hour trip along the River Corrib to one of Ireland’s largest lakes.

Along the way, you’ll get to go open-water paddling and island-hopping too, making it a really exciting way to spend an afternoon outside of the busy city centre. All the essentials such as wetsuits and a guide are included, so all you need to do is set sail!

Hike up Diamond Hill

For unrivalled views of Connemara and the Atlantic coast, climbing up Diamond Hill is the ultimate way to spend a gorgeous summer morning.

The hill is in Connemara National Park and it’s an hour-and-a-half drive out of Galway City, and you’ll get to see some of Connemara’s incredible scenery on the way. There are two different trails you can take to the top of Diamond Hill – the Lower Diamond Hill walk, which is 3 km long and takes 1 to 1.5 hours, and the Upper Diamond Hill trail which is 7 km long and takes 2.5 to 3 hours to complete. Both feature breathtaking views and incredible scenery, so you’re really in for a treat no matter how you get there.

Freedom is calling with Virgin Mobile is all about celebrating as we enjoy being more mobile and getting out there doing the things we love, reuniting with family and friends and enjoying new experiences across the country. For more information on Virgin Mobile see www.virginmobile.ie
