“The donkey’s essential.”

You’ll have to watch the video to find out exactly why the donkey is essential! Shane Guerrini made his name as a Creative Director with Dublin Ink but he admits that starting in the industry was a leap of faith. Hard work played a massive part in their success.

“For the first two years, we didn’t take days off,” he says. “We just wanted to be here. We were passionate and we were completely committed to making something of this place, and ourselves.”

He recalls a career guidance teacher advising him to get into carpentry but he didn’t see it as something that was for him. Shane knew that he wanted more in terms of personal and professional progression.

He would go on to turn the Dublin Ink into something more than just a tattoo studio but he also dived into the unknown with his efforts to set up Pigment, an exhibition which married photography and tattoo art. Self belief and being willing to take a risk was key to achieving this dream.

“Confidence is something that you acquire over time,” he points out. “I think that I was confident about going out, and willing to take a risk and willing to put my name on the line and say ‘Look, I’m going to approach these massive photographers.'”
