WATCH: Irish Islamic State suicide bomber’s 2003 Late Late Show interview

JOE

Khalid Kelly, born Terence Kelly, died last week as part of a suicide bomb operation while fighting for the Islamic State 70 miles outside of the Iraqi city of Mosul.

However, this atrocity will not be the first time that many Irish citizens will have heard of Khalid Kelly. Kelly featured on The Late Late Show back in 2003 when it was hosted by Pat Kenny — where he was interviewed at length about his introduction to Islam, his thoughts on Osama bin Laden, and whether or not he believed the attacks on September 11 were justified.

Speaking on 9/11, Kelly said “What happened answered a cry from the Iraqis, from the Palestinians, from the Afghanistanians [sic].”

Kelly was interviewed alongside Anjem Choudary, an Islamic extremist who has since been imprisoned in Britain for supporting the Islamic State.

The heated interview involves questions and criticism for the crowd, which listens to Kelly but roundly boos Choudary at many points.

The Islamic State released a photo of Kelly confirming his involvement in the suicide attack, referring to him as Abu Osama Irlandi: “Brother martyr Abu Osama Irelandi, may Allah accept his soul, attacked a group of animals from the Hashd [Shia militia] in the village of Ghzayel Al-Kabir.”
