“I think it is really important that all these questions have been raised.”
Former Ireland captain Jamie Heaslip took his spot on The Late Late Show’s couch on Friday evening, and as the country is still discussing the trial involving Paddy Jackson and Stuart Olding, that particular topic obviously needed to be addressed.
Ryan Tubridy led the charge by asking a very-much-needed-to-be-asked question:
“The Belfast trial that took place recently, it sparked a national and an international question about respect for women, and the locker room mentality culture, in rugby particular. What did you make of the conversations that came from those events and that trial?”
Heaslip answered as best he could for a man no longer in the midst of that culture, but definitely someone with enough knowledge and experience to know that further education is definitely something that is needed.
Additionally, Heaslip and Tubridy discuss the mentality of a player when they know they are wearing their nation’s jersey, and the expectations of behaviour that comes with being in that position.
