WATCH: Once a beloved Irish holiday camp, Mosney is now in a sorry, sorry state

Conor Heneghan

Sad to see.

Irish people over a certain age will immediately identify with Mosney, a holiday camp in Meath that was the venue for many a family’s summer holidays and played host to the Community Games on an annual basis.

In the year 2000, Mosney was turned into a home for asylum seekers, but footage recorded earlier this month shows the extent of the disrepair now evident in what was once one of Ireland’s favourite holiday destinations.

The footage, uploaded by YouTube user FlipFlop Windsurfing, shows the sorry state the grounds are currently in, with overgrown weeds and plants, rotted furniture and fixtures and broken windows evident throughout.

The sight of some of the buildings will instantly bring back memories for anyone who visited Mosney, but it’s a far cry from what it was like back in its heyday, which is very sad to see.
