“When you take a photo, you don’t know what is beyond that framing and I find that very interesting.”

Dublin-based photographer Babs Daly has established herself as one of Ireland’s most exciting young photographers and this video sees her discuss everything from her craft to her mother’s invaluable advice and her new studio in the Ink Factory.

She also recalls how her late uncle was an early influence, inspiring an interest in photos before leaving her his camera and photography equipment after he passed away.

“I just take photos and I have done ever since I was very young,” Babs says. “I’ve done the same thing over and over again. I think I’ve gotten better obviously. I think the more you practise something, the better you obviously get but I’ve done the same thing.

“I’ve just picked up my camera and brought it everywhere with me. Like, everywhere!”

Another thing that she loves about photography is being able to build up people’s confidence through the simple act of taking someone’s picture.

So what’s Babs’ advice for anyone who wants to follow their dream?

“Throw yourself in,” she advises. “Nothing is as scary as having regrets. That’s the fear – having a regret…”

Please drink responsibly.
