It’d make you want to pack your bags and move there…

Mayo Day is the festival which celebrates Mayo-ness, because having a Mayo jersey at every major event in the world isn’t quite enough for them.

In all seriousness, to mark Mayo Day, the creators of the festival have released a stunning short film capturing the vast cinematic beauty of one of Ireland’s most rugged and best loved western counties.

The Mayo Day film charts universally Irish themes of immigration, rural identity, its hardships, its triumphs and the undeniably special spirit of county Mayo and features Mayo people from all walks of life, from brass bands to GAA stars, firemen to factory workers, choirs to surfers.

Mayo Day begins on Saturday, April 29, and spans over three days and its coming will see arts, history, music and street theatre come alive to celebrate Mayo-ness.

The Mayo Day film, commissioned for Mayo Day 2017 by diaspora site Mayo.ie and was written and directed by award-winning Mayo Director Lorcan Hynes.

Have a look at the short film below, it will strike a chord with a lot of viewers…
