We’ve found one of the cheekiest Irish birthday cards and gifts that you’ll ever see

Birthday card

Ah, brotherly love.

If you’ve got a sibling then you’ll know the ‘slight difficulty’ that comes with having to articulate and express your feelings towards them while writing their birthday card.

Of course you love them – they’re your family and you’ll do anything for them – but we also know that you probably hate them too. After all, they made your life miserable for so many years but because they’re family, all hatred and petty resentment towards them should be forgotten… but it isn’t.

In some ways, that slight pause before writing a comment on a birthday card can feel like an eternity because while we’d all love to say ‘Dear X, thank you so much for being the best sister/brother ever. I love you with all my heart. Have a great day! x” it just looks and sounds weird. Like, really weird.

Truth be told, that’s probably why every birthday card comes with a message that’s already inscribed on the page but JOE reader Karin Brennan has sent us on this classic message that her 17-year-old son (Craig) sent to his older brother (David) on his birthday.

OK, the ‘sister card’ that Craig bought is a standard enough gag that’s used but the inscription and ‘gift’ is something else.

Karin tells us that David was “non too plussed” with the message and we can see why.

This being said, Craig, every little brother in the world salutes you.

Thanks to Karin Brennan for sending this in.
