What NOT to buy for someone this Valentine’s Day, No 2: The Christmas Present you forget to get them

You’d think people wouldn’t need to be told but…

JOE

Just remember, your partner never forgets… NEVER.

After spending quite a few years together, a lot of couples tend to get a little lazy when it comes to giving each other presents on the big annual holidays. But don’t think that you can get away with the old ‘two birds, one stone’ trick by giving your loving partner the Christmas present you still haven’t got around to getting them.

They certainly haven’t forgotten about any belated Christmas presents (believe us when we say that) and even if they say they don’t want anything for Valentine’s Day they’ll still be hoping to get something unexpected that shows you love them.

Maybe you promised your wife/girlfriend a nice romantic trip away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life out in some remote part of the country? And maybe you had the foresight to book it over the Valentine’s weekend?

If so, fair play, that’s some good thinking, but don’t think for a second that you’re covered for Valentine’s Day too. That’s what we call a ‘schoolboy error’.

You don’t even have to get them something expensive. Your partner isn’t expecting a brand new car or an engagement ring (well, some might) and as we said above, it’s the thought that counts. So a simple card, a single rose and something sweet would definitely do the trick and that tried & trusted combination of gifts certainly won’t break the bank either.

Better still, you can use Valentine’s Day as a great excuse to remind your loved one that you haven’t forgotten about any belated gifts by writing a sweet message at the end of your card:

   Roses are Red,
   Violets are Blue,
   I still haven’t Forgotten,
About that Christmas present I promised You,
And by the way, did I mention that I love You?

You get the gist…

So remember lads, there are no short cuts when it comes to love and if you’re going to do something then it’s always best to do it right. Buy the card before it’s too late and make sure to get a tasty tub of Häagen-Dazs ice-cream to remind her of how sweet you think she is.
