WOW air’s latest offer is amazing, but it only applies to people with a very specific name

It is overwhelmingly unlikely that you will be eligible for this offer.

Icelandic airline WOW air announced a Valentine’s Day offer today that very few people will be able to avail of. They are offering Irish passengers with the name ‘Valentine’ (first or surname) free return flights to New York for their plus one this Valentine’s Day.

There are further stipulations involved: the flights have to be booked between tomorrow (24 January) and Valentine’s Day. The flight themselves must be between 10-19 of February.

But hey, if your name is Valentine — we’re talking free flights to New York for V-Day, which is pretty sweet.

According to the CSO, there have been three or fewer Valentines born in Ireland since 1996 — when there were five. According to Census figures, there are roughly 200 people in Ireland named Valentine born since 1964. Of course, there are probably more people with Valentine as a last name — which it’s harder to find details about.

Commenting today, Svanhvít Fridriksdóttir, Director of Communications at WOW air, said: “We are huge fans of Valentine’s Day here at WOW and are delighted to be able to offer Irish passengers named Valentine the opportunity to visit the romantic sights of New York with their significant other.”

To redeem the offer, passengers named ‘Valentine’ need to send photographic proof of ID in the form of a passport or driver’s license to [email protected].
