The GPA (Gaelic players association) has called for a review of the winter training restriction, citing the incovenience of a set closed season.
Counties have been banned from training collectively in November and December, something that has been asked to be altered for the future.
"We have started the process and we will be expressing our views to relevant authorities after Christmas," a GPA spokesman has said. "It's something we have already put on the record. One set closed season doesn't fit all."
“The problem with the fixed ban over the two-month period is it doesn’t suit a system that doesn’t have a defined season," GPA spokesman Sean Potts previously told JOE.
"Players from Cork who are involved late in the championship are obviously busy playing most of the year but it wouldn’t necessarily suit teams that exited the championship in July who would rather get back as early as possible.”
The likliehood of it being changed remains slim, however, a communications representative telling JOE ealier this month that “there are no plans to review it. County boards are the ones that put in the rule and they are the ones that police it.”
