A new poster has been released for Obsession, the upcoming horror movie from popular YouTuber and writer-director Curry Barker (Milk & Serial).
Heading to cinemas next month, the film centres on Bear (Michael Johnston, Teen Wolf), a hopeless romantic who breaks "the mysterious One Wish Willow" so he can win the heart of his crush, Nikki (Inde Navarrette, Superman & Lois).
Soon after getting exactly what he asked for, however, he discovers that "some desires come at a dark, sinister price."
Obsession currently holds a near-perfect 95% Rotten Tomatoes score.
The movie's "unnerving' lead performance by Navarrette, its blend of horror and humour, and the way Barker twists a simple, relatable "careful what you wish for" premise into the stuff of nightmares have been singled out for praise.
Some have even called the film one of the best horrors of the decade.
You can read a sample of some of the positive reviews for Obsession below:
AwardsWatch: "Obsession is a new modern horror masterpiece [and] one of the best horror films of the decade so far."
Big Gold Belt Media: "Not only is Obsession a great horror film, it's one of the best films of the year."
Boston Hassle: "The real story here, however, is [Inde] Navarrette, who delivers one of the most fearlessly committed comic-horror performances in recent memory."
Cinapse: "Obsession is easily going to be horror fans’ next obsession. It’s got not only an air-tight script with some amazing lore embedded within its narrative, but it’s got some truly nuanced performances bringing it to life."
io9.com: "At times during Obsession, I was laughing out loud. At other times, I was legitimately terrified. And there were plenty of moments along the way filled with shock and disgust. It has everything you could want in a horror movie…It's brilliant."
The Mary Sue: "Obsession turns a seemingly simple premise into a nerve-rattling exploration of love, control, and unintended consequences."
Untitled Movie Podcast: "Be careful what you wish for in Curry Barker’s frighteningly funny Obsession, you might just get it!"
Obsession lands in Irish cinemas on 15 May 2026. Check out its trailer below:
