WATCH: Ryu drives a Toyota around instead of Hadouken-ing it to death

Rory Cashin

Back in 1991 (yes, it’s been over a quarter of a century), pretty much the entire planet was addicted to Street Fighter II.

One of the bonus levels involved your character beating up a car under a certain time limit, and it was just about the most cathartic thing that ever existed in the world of video-games.

This week, Toyota released their new advert for the C-HR, and it features none other than one of the game’s heroes, Ryu.

But instead of destroying the car with hurricane kicks and dragon uppercuts, he gets in and drives it around the world, seeing all of his old mates like the flame-throwing Dhalsim in India and the heavy hitting boxer Balrog in Vegas.

The car eventually ends up fighting the big boss M. Bison, using it’s headlights to defeat the villainous tyrant.

We’re not entirely sure what it’s all about, or that it even makes sense, but we are sure that our nostalgia levels are through the roof right now. Who’s up for a bit of a beat ’em up tournament?
