Here are the 10 films that earned the most money at the Irish box-office in 2016

Paul Moore

How many have you seen?

We’re in Oscar season right now as a host of critically acclaimed films like La La Land, Manchester by the Sea and Loving are set to be released in Irish cinemas, and with so many amazing films to look forward to throughout 2017, it’s very likely that cinemas in Ireland are going to be very busy.

In terms of summer blockbusters, 2016 was a bit of a damp squib with many of the major films failing to match the hype that surrounded their release, however, there was plenty of superb features that you really should see – we even made you this handy list of them!

Wide Eye Media have revealed the Republic of Ireland’s highest grossing films of 2016 and here they are.

Having seen the money that Bridget Jones’s Baby made, we don’t expect those granny pants to be thrown out anytime soon.

Elsewhere, it’s nice to see that Deadpool really registered with Irish audiences and if you need further proof that Star Wars is king, take a look at the money that Rogue One made. Bear in mind that Gareth Edwards’ film was only released on December 14th.

The Force is strong with it at the box-office and with Disney.
