This is a toughie…

Released in 2010, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World has one of those hindsight casts that is truly staggering when we see where everyone has ended up today.

On top of Michael Cera as the lead, it also featured Kieran Culkin (Succession), Alison Pill (Star Trek: Picard), Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect), Chris Evans (Captain America), Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), and Aubrey Plaza (Parks & Rec) among others.

But the object of Scott’s affections in the movie is one Ramona Flowers, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, despite the fact that Scott currently has a girlfriend, Knives Chao (Ellen Wong – GLOW).

At the end of the movie, Scott does end up with Ramona, which seemed to split audiences right down the middle, with a lot of viewers angry that he didn’t see the error of his ways and go back to Knives, the woman who showed him genuine interest and affection throughout the movie.

So, obviously, when JOE sat down with Winstead in the run-up to the release of Birds Of Prey, we had to ask her what she though about. Should Scott have picked Ramona or Knives??

“Oh gosh, that’s a tough one! Because I like both endings, for different reasons,” Winstead tells JOE, referring to the alternative ending, in which Scott does indeed end up getting back with Knives.

“But ultimately, I like the ending that is in the movie, because I think – I don’t know for sure that they’re going to end up together – but they’re giving it another try, as real people this time. And not this idealised version of what their love is going to be, from him fighting the exes, and she’s the prize.

“It’s like this time it’s ‘Okay, lets just start over as people, as see what happens’. And Knives is doing her own thing! Knives doesn’t need to be messed up with these people! Knives is too good for that!”

Winstead appears as Huntress, one of the killer Birds Of Prey, which you can catch on the big screen when it is released in Irish cinemas on Friday 7 February.
