#TRAILERCHEST: The incredibly tense 1917 looks like Saving Private Ryan meets Dunkirk

1917 trailer

Our first look at one of the big Oscar front-runners.

Welcome to #TrailerChest, where we’re taking a sneak peek at the brand new trailer for 1917.

Plot’s it all about?

Sam Mendes can’t help but get Oscar attention. His very first movie was the five-time Oscar winning American Beauty, and since then he has given us Road To Perdition, Jarhead, Revolutionary Road, Away We Go, most of which have won or been nominated for Academy Awards.

Heck, even BOTH of his Bond movies – Skyfall and Spectre – have won Oscars! So when he announces a new movie, everyone sits up and takes notice.

He had been mostly tight-lipped about his new project, with little more information known, other than the fact that it was set in World War I, and that it had a very impressive cast involved.

Mendes co-wrote the script with Krysty Wilson-Cairns (Penny Dreadful, Last Night In Soho), and now we finally get our first look at the trailer, and…. YEP! We smell more Oscars.

There is definitely a Saving Private Ryan-meets-Dunkirk-vibe to the plot, as two soldiers (MacKay and Chapman) are sent on an seemingly impossible mission across enemy lines to deliver a message that could stop a deadly attack and save the lives of hundreds of soldiers.

Starring: Richard Madden, Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Strong, Andrew Scott, Colin Firth, George MacKay, Dean-Charles Chapman

Directed by: Sam Mendes

Irish release date: 10 January 2020

Enjoy!
