New ‘James Bond’ show with 100% on Rotten Tomatoes streaming now

It's Amazon's first major James Bond project since acquiring the franchise rights.

That said, Bait isn't your typical 007 entry. Instead of an action movie, it's a six-part comedy-drama centred around the hunt for Daniel Craig's successor as James Bond.

The show is created by and stars Oscar-winner Riz Ahmed (The Night Of, Relay, Sound of Metal), someone who in real-life has been floated as a potential future 007. This experience seems to have inspired his new series.

Ahmed plays the lead character, Shah, a struggling actor whose life rapidly changes after word gets out that he is in the running to play the iconic spy role.

"His family, ex-lover and the entire world weigh in on whether he is the right man for the job," the plot synopsis adds.

Bait's cast also includes Guz Khan (Taskmaster), Ritu Arya (Polite Society) and Weruche Opia (I May Destroy You), as well as several guest appearances which we won't spoil.

JOE checked out the pilot for the show and can say that Bait blends Curb Your Enthusiasm-esque meta cringe comedy with believable, compelling family drama.

This is as it also explores important ideas around race and representation onscreen and in the entertainment industry.

The end result is clever, thought-provoking, but above all, very funny. We can't wait to watch the rest of its bite-sized 25-minute episodes.
