This star-studded thriller is an undisputed classic.

Our TV movie pick for tonight (Tuesday, 18 August) is The Untouchables, the legendary '80s gangster thriller.

Loosely based on true events and set during the Prohibition era in the US, the film focuses on Federal Agent Eliot Ness (Kevin Costner - Horizon, Open Range) as he sets out to stop ruthless Chicago gangster Al Capone (Robert De Niro - Taxi Driver, The Whisper Man).

Ness' initial efforts to bring Capone to justice fail due to widespread corruption within the Windy City's police force. As such, he recruits an elite group of lawmen who won't be swayed by bribes or fear.

The squad includes veteran cop Jimmy Malone (007 Sean Connery, in an Oscar-winning performance), as well as police trainee and expert marksman George Stone (Andy Garcia - Black Rain, Internal Affairs).

Directed by Brian De Palma (Carlito’s Way, The Fury) and written by David Mamet (Glengarry Glen Ross, The Verdict), The Untouchables is a classic cat-and-mouse story, elevated by stunning period detail, exciting action set-pieces, and an incredible cast.

Remaining a classic to this day, the movie is airing on TV tonight on BBC Two at 11.10pm. The film is also currently streaming on Netflix and Paramount+.
