Here are the 5 best movies on the telly tonight

Rory Cashin

fast furious 7

Five good ways to get over hump day.

We’re nearly there, people! Half way through the week, weekend is in sight, but we will need some assistance to make the time go by a little faster.

With that in mind, here is a collection of movies to do just that:

WEDNESDAY 24 OCTOBER

Licence To Kill – ITV4 – 8.00pm

Not a huge amount of fun, because this was in the middle of the dour Timothy Dalton era, but the stunts are still pretty great, and that theme song? Instant classic.

Fast & Furious 7 – ITV2 – 9.00pm

The second best of the eight speedy and angry movies (after Fast Five), with the new addition of Jason Statham really pumping up proceedings. Plus anyone who doesn’t cry during the final scene is made of stone. STONE!

A Most Wanted Man – Film Four – 9.00pm

The late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman plays a German agent who gets caught up in a series of double agents and double crosses. Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright, and Willem Dafoe co-star, based on a book by John le Carre (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Night Manager) and directed by Anton Corbijn (best known for directing U2’s music videos for ‘One’, ‘Pride (In The Name Of Love)’, and ‘Electrical Storm’).

Lethal Weapon – TCM – 9.00pm

Mel Gibson is the cop on the edge. Danny Glover is the cop on the edge of retirement. They’re partnered up to solve a series of murders, and in the process create one of the greatest buddy cop pairings in the history of cinema.

Unstoppable – Syfy – 11.10pm

Chris Pine and Denzel Washington are two train engineers who find they might be the only ones who can stop an out-of-control train, filled with explosives, with no brakes and no driver. Believe it or not, this is based on a true story!

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
