Rory Cashin

blade 2

From vampires to Oscar winners. But no Oscar-winning vampires, unfortunately.

Did you know it is to drop to as low as -4 tonight? Because it is!

It is too cold to be doing anything but hibernating.

We’ve got two options for you.

Option One: Go to the cinema, where it is warm, and the films are good.

Here are our reviews of all the new releases:

Option Two: Stay on the couch, where it is warm and the films are good.

Here are our top picks for tonight:

THURSDAY 1 NOVEMBER

27 Dresses – Film Four – 7.50pm

Katherine Heigl is always the bridesmaid, never the bride.

But when her younger sister ends up with the man of Katherine’s dreams, she begins to question whether or not she should be putting all these other women’s dreams ahead of her own.

A perfectly acceptable rom-com.

Double Team – TCM – 10.00pm

Jean-Claude Van Damme teams up with… *checks notes* … Dennis Rodman, in order to take down international terrorist… Mickey Rourke?

This sounds all kinds of bonkers and we are 100% here for it.

Blade II – Syfy – 11.00pm

The superior sequel in the daywalker series sees Wesley Snipes go sword to sword with a new breed of vampires that aren’t against the idea of feeding on their own kind.

A great action-horror hybrid with some spectacular special effects.

12 Years a Slave – Film Four – 11.45pm

An all-star cast (Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Lupita N’Yongo, Benedict Cumberbatch, Sarah Paulson, Alfie Woodard, Paul Dano, Paul Giamatti, Michael K. Williams, Scoot McNairy) feature in Steve McQueen’s multi-Oscar winning story of Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery.

McQueen’s new movie Widows is in Irish cinemas very soon and is also very, very good.

Goodfellas – TCM – 11.55pm

The greatest gangster movie of all time? Discuss.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
