For those not wanting to leave the couch this evening…

Wednesday. Mid-week. Middle of the week. The day of the week when we’re most unsure about our evening plans.

Could we direct you towards the cinema? There’s plenty of good stuff on the big screen right now.

If you’re in a movie mood but rather not leave the house, then we’ve got lots of options for you there:

WEDNESDAY 3 APRIL

Blade – TCM – 8.00pm

Black Panther wasn’t quite the first black superhero to hit the big screen, with Wesley Snipes playing the day-walking vampire-slayer who is trying to stop a literal Blood God (?!?!) from taking over the planet. Incredibly violent, but in a fun way.

Unforgiven – ITV4 – 8.00pm

Clint Eastwood returns to the western genre, playing a former cowboy who takes on one last gun-slinging job after being out of the game for years. Correctly perceived to be a bit of a modern classic.

Hot Fuzz – ITV2 – 8.00pm

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are the odd-couple cops who find themselves in the depths of a small town conspiracy that goes all the way to the top. Kind of. Brilliantly quotable action-comedy with an incredible supporting cast.

The Purge: Election Year – FilmFour – 8.00pm

Arguably the best of The Purge movies to date, which does sound like damning with faint praise, except that this one is genuinely of a higher IQ, mixing some clever political satire in amongst the carnage.

Phone Booth – Syfy – 9.40pm

Colin Farrell is trapped in a Manhattan phone booth by an unseen sniper, and he has to follow his instructions to the letter or he’ll have his head blown off. Tense and well-acted.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
