Here are the 5 best movies on TV tonight

Rory Cashin

foxcatcher

Sitting in? It is too cold to do things, so we’ve got you covered.

A bizarrely horror-movie-free night, considering Halloween is TOMORROW, and the closest we get is an underrated horror-comedy threequel.

That being said, there are still some crackers to choose from…

TUESDAY 30 OCTOBER

The Devil Wears Prada – Film Four – 7.35pm

One of the best and most stylish comedies of recent years, with Meryl Streep on seriously stellar form as the iconic Miranda Priestly, editor of Runway Magazine. Also features Anne Hathaway in full-on likeable mode, and Emily Blunt stealing every snide-y scene she’s in.

Foxcatcher – RTE Two – 9.00pm

Steve Carrell got a bit of a nose job towards getting a Best Actor Oscar nomination in this supremely creepy thriller about a very rich man who takes a bit of an oppressive fascination with a wrestler (Channing Tatum) and his brother (an also-nominated Mark Ruffalo), who tries to protect him.

Hellboy – Comedy Central – 10.00pm

Ron Perlman is perfectly cast as the demon who decides he wants to be a good guy instead, and Guillermo Del Toro was the perfect director to bring it to the big screen. A very unique vision of superhero movies, even if it does eventually get bettered by its own sequel.

Scream 3 – W – 11.00pm

This gets a lot of flack for being more of a comedy than a horror movie, which is kind of understandable, but knowing that in advance should make it a much easier watch. Features some great cameos by Carrie Fisher and Lance Hendrickson, and then there is Parker Posey’s otherworldly performance. “My. Lawyer. Liked. That!”

Nacho Libre – ITV4 – 11.35pm

Jack Black as a Mexican wrestler trying to save an orphanage, from the director of Napoleon Dynamite. What more do you need to know?

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
