Everyone has demons…

Good things come to those who wait. Isn’t that what people say?

The world has been crying out for the brand new Marvel movie, The New Mutants, for a what seems like an eternity at this point, but the good news is that it’s finally about to be released.

We really mean it this time – Friday 4 September is the date to get X-cited about.

New Mutants

In the brand new action-packed movie based on the Marvel comic series, five young people with strange abilities are brought to a top secret institution to receive special treatment which – according to the mysterious staff watching over them – will offer a ‘cure’ for their dangerous powers.

Think One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest meets The Breakfast Club with bonus mutant powers thrown into the mix and you’re starting to get the idea.

The five patients soon begin to realise, however, that their psychiatric testing, as well as the reality they appear to be living, may not be quite what they seem…

Why are they really being held captive? And who could be out to destroy them?

All will be revealed on 4 September when The New Mutants is released in Irish cinemas.

The cast of brand new characters…

We absolutely love the X-Men and their world – Wolverine, Jean Grey, Magneto, Beast and Mystique are some of the best big screen characters around, but it’s always that little bit more exciting when films are able to offer us new cinematic characters.

Sure, we know this particular gang already exists in the comic books, but The New Mutants is something entirely different for film fans who may be unfamiliar with their work.

Step forward this motley crew of fresh faces…

From right to left you’re looking at the always excellent Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Stranger Things’ Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, Blu Hunt as Mirage and Henry Zaga as Sunspot. We’ll get to our fifth and final member in just a minute.

Whether Wolverine pops up for another cracking cameo, however, remains to be seen…

Maisie Williams

There is one standout star we’re particularly excited about though.

She took the world by storm with her career-making turn as Arya Stark in Game Of Thrones and now Maisie Williams is ready to mix things up as Rahne Sinclair AKA Wolfsbane.

The talented actor plays a young, religious girl from Scotland who’s trying to come to terms with her special abilities, but god help anyone who tries to get in her way…

The horror look and feel…

Dark. Ominous. Disturbing.

No, we’re not talking about the government’s back-to-school plans for Ireland, we’re talking about the terrific trailer for The New Mutants.

We’ve heard it time and time again with new superhero and comic book movies; “this time it’s DARKER.” Not many movies actually live up to the sell, but if the above sneak peek at The New Mutants is anything to go by, then it definitely looks like we’re in for a feast of fantastic frights.

Creaky noises with an obligatory “who’s there?” whispered into the dark? Check.

A completely terrifying hand rising from the deep? It’s got it.

Creepy faces in the wall? YES PLEASE.

The deadly director…

As with any movie, there’s a whole team of people behind the scenes who make the magic happen, but for The New Mutants, there’s one man who’s been there every step of the way.

Josh Boone is the man tasked with bringing more mutants to a movie house near you and it’s easy to see why he’s one of the most exciting up-and-coming directors in Hollywood.

As well as impressing with his hugely popular adaptation of The Fault In Our Stars, Boone has also been handed the reins to The Stand – a 10-part mini-series adapted from Stephen King’s novel of the same name.

And last but not least…

Going back to the cinema!

This is possibly the most exciting thing that’s happened to ANYONE in the past six months.

Well, it is for me anyway.

Can you just imagine? Going to your local cinema again, sitting back in your comfy chair, completely relaxing, no one to bother you and the big screen lighting up in front of you.

You just can’t beat it.

There are actually very few new movies out right now, so if you fancy going to check out The New Mutants, you can grab your tickets right here.

To get you in the mood ahead of seeing the movie, you can also check out this very cool and exclusive Young & Powerful Spotify playlist which features music inspired by The New Mutants, with tracks specially chosen and introduced by the cast and director Josh Boone.

Who knew mutants had amazing powers AND great taste in music?

New Mutants is released in Irish cinemas on Friday 4 September and tickets are now available to book by clicking here.
