Here are the 6 best movies on the TV today

Rory Cashin

the raid

Features one of, if not THE, best action movies of all time.

It looks like we’ll be getting some bad weather pretty much all weekend.

So the best thing to do is watch a movie.

You can either go to the cinema (we’ve reviewed all of the new releases, including Avengers: Endgame, right here), or you can sit in and enjoy one of these instead:

FRIDAY 26 APRIL

The Goonies – TCM – 6.45pm

One of the greatest adventure movies of all time. If you’ve never seen it, or if you have and you’ve got members of a younger generation around that have never seen it, then sort that out this evening.

The Heat – FilmFour – 9.00pm

Sandra Bullock is the uptight cop, Melissa McCarthy is the messy live-wire cop, and they are partnered together to solve what they don’t immediately realise turns out to be a major crime. A decent comedy.

Talladega Night: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby – Dave – 9.00pm

“Help me Jesus! Help me Jewish God! Help me Allah! AAAAAHHH! Help me Tom Cruise!”

Hot Fuzz – RTE Two – 9.40pm

“It’s just the one swan, actually.”

Everybody Wants Some!! – FilmFour – 11.20pm

Set in 1980 Texas, a college freshman meets his new baseball teammates, and he embarks on a year of partying, trying to hook up with ladies, and wearing the loudest shirts imaginable. A spiritual sequel to Dazed And Confused.

The Raid – Channel 4 – 12.35am

A group of cops are tasked with entering a high rise apartment complex in order to find a dangerous drug dealer inside. But it turns out the criminals are more thoroughly protected than the cops realised. A jaw-dropping, intensely violent action thriller.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
