Netflix release the trailer for Chris Lilley’s bonkers new comedy

Paul Moore

Chris Lilley

He created Summer Heights High and Angry Boys. It arrives this week.

Do you know what ‘sneaky nuts’ are? If the answer is yes, you’ll be pleased to know that Chris Lilley has a brand new comedy on Netflix called Lunatics and it looks every bit as twisted as his previous work.

Truth be told, very few shows have garnered such a cult following as Lilley’s work and the controversial comedian is returning with a new show on the online streaming giant.

In terms of the official synopsis, Lunatics revolves around: “A Pet Psychologist to the stars, a Real Estate Entrepreneur, a cutting edge Fashion Designer, a budding Museum Owner, an arts and crafts Influencer, and the future Earl of Gayhurst. Lunatics: the story of six characters coming to terms with themselves and the world around them – be it a haunting past or a pressurising future, finding love or chasing dreams”.

The show is Lilley’s first since he was the subject of criticism after posting a video on his Instagram account of a music clip entitled “Squashed N**ga”, starring the character S.mouse from Lilley’s 2011 TV show, Angry Boys.

The music video featured an indigenous boy lying on the ground with his arms splayed.

On 24 July 2017, the court case based on the death of Elijah Doughty had ended in controversy and was the subject of pro-Aboriginal protests. Just like the real case, Lilley’s music video described an Aboriginal boy being run over and killed. At the time, Lilley said that the video had no connection to that tragic news or current events.

Lilley’s other show, Jonah from Tonga, has also been criticised for racial insensitivity.

This being said, if you love his comedy, you’ll definitely be watching Lunatics when it’s released on 19 April.

Take a look at what’s in store.
