Bond is back.

Rami Malek may have been feeling shaken and stirred after winning an Oscar for Bohemian Rhapsody but he’s going up against Daniel Craig in the new Bond film.

After Danny Boyle dropped out of the project, Cary Joji Fukunaga (True Detective) has stepped into the director’s chair as Daniel Craig returns for his fifth film as 007.

As for the plot, the official synopsis states that: “Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.”

In a prerecorded message, Malek said: “I promise you all, I will be making sure that Mr. Bond does not have any easy ride of it in this, his 25th outing.”

While nothing official was announced about who Malek will be playing, we’re fairly certain that he’ll be a villain.

Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, producers on the film, confirmed that principal photography on the 25th official James Bond film begins on 28 April.

Alongside Craig in the lead role, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear, Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, and Jeffrey Wright will all be returning to the franchise.

In terms of the newcomers, Ana de Armas (Blade Runner 2049), Dali Benssalah (Nox), David Dencik (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel), Billy Magnussen (Aladdin) and Malek will have a licence to thrill film fans.

The script is something of a collaboration with Neal Purvis & Robert Wade, Scott Z. Burns, Cary Joji Fukunaga and Phoebe Waller-Bridge all having input.

Metro Goldwyn Mayer will release Bond 25 on April 8, 2020 in the US. As for Ireland and the rest of the world, the film will be released through Universal Pictures International and Metro Goldwyn Mayer in from April 3, 2020.
