Show creator Alex Pina said the final season will be the “most epic and exciting season” to date.

Netflix has delivered some mixed news for the many fans of La Casa de Papel, or Money Heist, by confirming its return for a fifth season, but also confirming that it will be the last as the heist finally comes to an end.

Production on the fifth season of the Spanish heist series will begin as early as next Monday (3 August), with shooting set to take place in Spain, Denmark and Portugal, having already filmed in Thailand, Panama and Italy in the show’s four seasons to date.

Describing what’s in store for the final season, show creator and executive producer Alex Pina said: “We’ve spent almost a year thinking about how to break up the band. How to put the Professor on the ropes. How to get into situations that are irreversible for many characters.

“The result is the fifth part of La Casa de Papel. The war reaches its most extreme and savage levels, but it is also the most epic and exciting season.”

Joining the existing cast will be Miguel Ángel Silvestre and Patrick Criado, with Jesús Colmenar, Koldo Serra and Álex Rodrigo taking on directing duties.

Netflix has also confirmed that there will be 10 episodes in the final season, while a release date has yet to be revealed.
