“Do our movie picks make you horny, baby??”

It is Sunday, and Sunday is a good day to stay on the couch and watch some movies.

Knowing this, your friendly TV programmers have picked out quite a selection of movies to pick from, and then your good mates here at JOE picked out what we reckon are the best (or at least, the most entertaining) ones from that bunch.

The rest? Is up to you…

SUNDAY 16 SEPTEMBER

Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull – BBC Two – 6.05pm

The fourth Indy movie is admittedly a bit of a mess – between nuking the fridge, and the helpful monkeys, and the presence of Shia LeBeouf – but there is still enough here to make sure you enjoy yourself, not least of which is Cate Blanchett having an absolute ball as an evil Russian scientist.

Back To The Future – E4 – 6.40pm

“Chuck! Chuck, it’s Marvin. Your cousin, Marvin Berry. You know that new sound you’re looking for? Well, listen to this!”

Dirty Dancing – Virgin Media One – 9.00pm

Remains one of the ultimate date night movies ever made.

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me – Comedy Central – 9.00pm

The best of the Austin Powers trilogy, with Heather Graham on great form as the kick-ass spy who is a match for Austin in every way. Plus we get introduced to Mini-Me and Fat Bastard in this one.

Deliverance – TCM – 9.00pm

A group of friends go on a canoeing trip through Georgia, and find themselves being hunted down by the locals. Jon Voight, Burt Reynolds, Ned Beatty, and Ronny Cox perfectly channel their fear into this relentlessly bleak thriller.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes – Channel 4 – 10.00pm

Again, another Best Of The Three movie, as Dawn is better made than Rise, but also more fun to watch than War. It also features Gary Oldman and Jason Clarke giving some greatly underappreciated performances as the humans trying to maintain peace, while Andy Serkis and Toby Kebbell steal the show as the good and bad side of the apes. Plus, that bit with the revolving tank turret? Amazing.

Byzantium – Film 4 – 10.55pm

Directed by our own Neil Jordan, this dark drama tells the story of two vampires – played by Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan – who are on the run from more of their own kind, and take refuge in a beachfront community. Things don’t stay peaceful there for very long.

The Crazies – Syfy – 12.00am

A properly good remake, as the residents of a small American town find themselves becoming infected with a zombie-like virus, and a husband and wife must attempt to survive both their now-homicidal neighbours, and a government intent on keeping the infection a secret by any means necessary.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
