Here are the 9 best movies on the TV this Bank Holiday Monday

Rory Cashin

Everything from brilliant Will Ferrell comedies to super violent action movies.

Since it is a Bank Holiday Monday, and there are so many great new movies in the cinema, we kinda do recommend you head out to catch one of them. We review them all in the latest episode of The Big Reviewski, which you can check out right here:

Sitting in for the day though? With that rain, we totally understand. Here are the 9 best movies to stay couch-bound for…

Megamind – RTE Two – 12:50

Will Ferrell voices the super-villain, Brad Pitt is the superhero who gets a bit fed up saving the world, and Tina Fey is the “damsel in distress” who can totally take care of herself. Overlooked but definitely one of the funnier animated movies of the last few years.

Wayne’s World – Comedy Central – 14:00

“Did you ever find Bugs Bunny attractive when he put on a dress and played a girl bunny?”

Clueless – Comedy Central – 16:00

A modern retelling of Jane Austen’s Emma (yes, really), with Alicia Silverstone playing the title character to perfection. It is up there with Mean Girls and Easy A for the ultimate trio of brilliant teen comedies.

Paddington – Film 4 – 16:40

Without question, one of the best family movies of all time, and we will fight anyone who says otherwise.

Back To The Future Part III – Film 4 – 18:30

The one where they all go back to the Wild West, and the one that half of the series’ fans argue is really the best one.

Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery – Comedy Central – 20:00

“Yeah, baby!”

Free Fire – Film 4 – 21:00

Cillian Murphy, Jack Reynor, Brie Larson, Sharlto Copley, Armie Hammer and loads more get caught up in one long shoot-out in an abandoned factory in 1970s New York when a gun deal goes terribly wrong. As funny as it is violent.

Star Trek – Sky One – 21:00

The sexy reboot starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana, directed by JJ Abrams who clearly just wanted to make a Star Wars movie… which he eventually went on to do anyways. Eric Bana is having a blast as the bad guy, and some the space battles are brilliantly made.

First Blood – ITV4 – 23:10

Before it became an excuse to kill people willy nilly, this first Rambo was Sly Stallone returning from Vietnam and forced to go on the run and defend himself from the local police force. Brilliant gritty action.
