A 21 Jump Street/Men in Black crossover movie could well be on the way

We haven’t been this excited about a crossover project since the mooted link-up between the Flintstones and the Jetsons.

The crossover above was not just a pipe-dream referenced in The Simpsons and did actually get made (thanks to Rory Cashin for the heads-up) but, sadly, never achieved the type of popularity that a 21 Jump Street/Men in Black crossover would no doubt attract if it goes ahead.

And this isn’t a Dumb in Dumber-style one in a million chance (“so you’re telling me there’s a chance”) either; according to the Hollywood Reporter, it is an idea that was recently discussed by Sony and was allegedly described by Jonah Hill as “clean and rad and powerful”.

That information stems from e-mails that were leaked last week as a result of the hacking of Sony Enterprises and it has already been speculated that, if it did go ahead, that Phil Lord and Chris Miller – who directed 21 and 22 Jump Street – would be involved.

It has also been rumoured that neither Will Smith nor Tommy Lee Jones – the stars of the three Men in Black films to date – will be returning – although moviegoers who tired of that duo in the third episode of the franchise will hardly be too disappointed by that news.

So, can we expect to see Schmidt and Jenko battling aliens as well as bad guys while having loads of craic in the process in the near future?

We’d watch it.
