EXCLUSIVE: Andrew Scott talks about the “top secret” roles he’s got coming up

Rory Cashin

Are we about to get More-iarty?

Andrew Scott has made quite the name of himself in recent years.

Having played some great bad guys against two of Britain’s biggest heroes – he’s caused trouble for both Sherlock Holmes and James Bond – and with both of those roles, he’s had to develop a way to talk about his projects without giving anything away, because it usually involves some sort of spoiler if he were to be too honest in advance.

This week, we were lucky enough to catch up with Scott during his stint at the Galway Film Fleadh – he was there to attend the premiere of his new dark thriller Steel Country – and over the course of the conversation, we obviously had to ask what he had coming up next.

“As usual, with all the things that I’m doing… if I reveal, what I’ve just been filming, a sniper will come and shoot me in the face. From an American… (he pauses to think)… from America. That’s a clue! No, I’ve just done a little of American television. That narrows it down.”

Our best guess? The Walking Dead, because that is currently filming the next season, and it is one of the few big American shows where the new cast additions are kept on the QT, other than Game Of Thrones (which isn’t filmed in the States) or Westworld (which isn’t filming at all right now).

We have to point out that there are very few other actors out there that have had their careers so constantly shrouded in mystery:

“It’s so true! I ask if I can tell people about this, and they always say ‘Do not tell ANYONE about this!’, so I’m sorry, I’ve nothing for you, but you’ll know what I mean when you see it. So… a bit of American television, and then I’m over to England for… something else I can’t talk about!”

SHERLOCK?? MORIARTY IS BACK?!?! He won’t say, and we’ve got to say, it is almost as if he really enjoys spurning on these guessing games in the fans:

“Yeah, I think its fun. I’m kinda used to it now because of Sherlock and Bond and I’ve learned how to not give the game away. Because its exciting then when people see it and they say ‘Awh, cool!’, so yeah, I do quite enjoy it. There is a bit of a sadist in me for that!”

The full interview with Andrew Scott will feature on this week’s new episode of The Big Reviewski, which will be available on all good podcasting apps from Thursday 19 July.
