The trailer is basically a short horror film all on its own.
“Daddy?”
That is all it takes, after nearly two minutes of wordless horror plays out during the trailer for Antlers.
Directed and co-written by Scott Cooper (Black Mass, Out Of The Furnace), it tells the story of a young boy (Jeremy T. Thomas) who traps animals or collects roadkill, and then feeds it to… something… in his attic back home.
His teacher (Keri Russell) seems concerned for his general well-being, which then becomes outright fear when… something… starts to kill the locals in their small town, and the head investigator (Jesse Plemons) seems genuinely horrified by what he is discovering.
The movie is co-produced by Guillermo Del Toro (who obviously knows his way around horror), and this new trailer gives us a peak-through-your-fingers glimpse at what the young boy has been dealing with in his attic.
A mix of The Babadook and the original Pet Sematary, this really does look like it could be in with an early shout for being the best horror of 2019.
