Remember when vampires were scary?
Probably not, because over the last few years we've seen them in action movies (Blade), teenage romances (Twilight), epic period thrillers (Dracula Untold), and crime capers (From Dusk Til Dawn).
It has been a while since vampires have been considered properly terrifying, but it does look like the BBC and Netflix's new take on the most famous vampire of them all is bringing scary back.
Dracula is a retelling of the classic story that follows the infamous vampire from his origins in Eastern Europe to his battles with Van Helsing's descendent and beyond.
Mark Gatiss and Stephen Moffat, the makers of Cumberbatch-starring retelling of Sherlock, are behind this new version, with Claes Bang (The Affair, The Girl In The Spider's Web) starring as Dracula himself.
You can see from the teaser trailer that they are really leaning into the grotesque imagery and sexuality-tinged horror (the way he grabs that guy's face pre-bite definitely has an... intimacy... to it), but one thing they're not leaning into is letting us know when the show is actually going to arrive, ending the trailer on nothing more than a "Coming Soon".
What we do know is that, much like Sherlock, the show will consist of three feature-length episodes, so it will definitely be something that we can sink our teeth into. (Flawless vampire pun.)
