Movies on TV

Harry Potter klaxon.

With a status yellow rainfall warning in place for the western part of the country, it’s likely that plenty of people will be spending time on the couch today.

With that in mind, here are some of the best films on TV today.

Kung Fu Panda – 15:35 on Virgin Media One

The first one.

Grumpy Old Men – 15:45 on RTÉ 1

Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are absolutely great together. A very easy watch for a Sunday.

Tuner & Hooch – 17:10 on Film 4

Tom Hanks + dog = win.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone – 17:55 on RTÉ2

If you’re a fan, you know you’ll be watching it for the 1,237 time.

Kung Fu Panda 2 – 18:10 on E4

The second one.

Godzilla – 18:35 on ITV2

Never really did live up to the exquisite ‘halo drop’ sequence that we saw in the trailer but there’s still loads to enjoy about Gareth Edwards’s stylish reboot.

Death Becomes Her – 18:55 on Paramount

Jet black comedy that ages like a fine wine. Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn absolutely hate each other, Looney Tunes-esque murder ensues.

Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls – 19:00 on Comedy Central

“Bumblebee tuna! Bumblebee tuna!”

Chronicle – 19:20 on Film4

An excellent found-footage take on the superhero genre. What day isn’t made better by Michael B. Jordan?

Loving – 21:30 on RTÉ 1

Ireland’s own Ruth Negga picked up an Oscar nomination for her performance in this moving drama. The brilliant Joel Edgerton stars alongside her too.

Kick-Ass 2 – 22:00 on E4

Jim Carrey can’t quite match Nic Cage’s zany performance in the first – who can? – but there’s fun to be had in Chloë Grace Moretz’s performance as Hit Girl.

Hot Shots! – 23:30 on Comedy Central

Admiral Benson. That is all.

The Guest – 00:50 on Film4

Have we ever mentioned how much we love this film? Because we do.
