Here are the 6 best movies on TV this evening
Tonight’s line-up features two classic comedies and a movie with a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
It’s Tuesday. Monday is out of the way but we haven’t got the hump of the week over with and we’re going to need something to help us through it.
Thankfully, the TV schedule has come to our aid this evening with two movies with a near-guaranteed supply of laughs, as well as one of the best horrors of modern times if you’re prepared to stay up late.
Here’s what’s on the menu this evening…
Transcendence – Film4 – 6.40pm
Johnny Depp, Morgan Freeman and Cillian Murphy feature in a strong cast, but this movie on artificial intelligence tries to be too clever for its own good.
The Inbetweeners Movie – E4 – 9pm
There are plenty of examples of a popular TV series failing to make a smooth transition to the big screen but thankfully this isn’t one of them.
The lads on holiday in Crete is knee deep in laughs from the get go.
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery – Comedy Central – 9pm
The franchise ended up being milked for all it was worth, but the original is very funny and still holds up well nearly 25 years after its original release.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets – Film4 – 9pm
As the title suggests, the concept of this movie isn’t the most straightforward but if you’re into a bit of sci-fi and prepared to pay attention, it’s actually not bad.
Planet of the Apes – ITV4 – 10.05pm
Not a patch on the more recent remake with Andy Serkis on James Franco, but the 2001 Mark Wahlberg version just about passes as watchable if you’ve nothing else for doing.
The Babadook – SyFy – 11pm
A young boy is troubled by a monster from storybook that he is convinced exists in real life.
Not for the faint-hearted, but if you can stomach it, this garnered a 98% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes for good reason.
