Here are the best movies on TV this evening

What will you be watching?

Feeling like you’ve watched everything on Netflix or Prime Video? Not to worry, as there are an eclectic bunch of movies airing on TV this evening.

Here, JOE has selected tonight’s best options.

Inception – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

Christopher Nolan’s modern sci-fi classic centres on a team of thieves (led by Leonardo DiCaprio) who steal corporate secrets through the use of dream-sharing technology. The group is given the inverse task of planting an idea into the mind of a CEO.

Nolan manages to make the complicated exposition of Inception’s first half feel fun and seamless. That is before an incredible, action-packed second half, as well as an enigmatic, unforgettable final shot.

Inception also stars Cillian Murphy, who JOE recently chatted to about A Quiet Place Part II.

12 Years a Slave – Film Four – 9pm

The Best Picture winner at the 2013 Oscars, 12 Years a Slave tells the true story of Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor) a free black man in 19th-century America who is abducted and sold into slavery.

Brutal and disturbing, 12 Years a Slave is often a tough watch. That said, the importance of its subject matter, the incredible performances and director Steve McQueen’s artful, humane approach to the material make it necessary viewing.

The Gorgon – True Movies – 9pm

In the early 20th century, a Gorgon takes human form and terrorises a small European village by turning its citizens to stone.

The legendary Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing star in this 1964 horror from Hammer Films.

An American Werewolf in London – True Movies – 10.50pm

This horror-comedy centres on two American college students on a walking tour of Britain who are attacked by a werewolf that none of the locals will admit exists.

While I am partial to Dog Soldiers, An American Werewolf in London is generally considered the best werewolf movie ever made and is worth watching just for the incredible transformation effects by special make-up effects artist Rick Baker.

Urban Legend – Horror Channel – 10.55pm

In this 90s slasher flick, a college student suspects a series of bizarre deaths are connected to certain urban legends.

While receiving negative reviews from critics upon release, Urban Legends was a hit and has been credited as being one of the first major movies to redistribute the urban legends and folklore depicted within it to the public.

Stratton – Film Four – 11.40pm

A British Special Boat Service commando (Dominic Cooper) tracks down an international terrorist cell in this action film from the director of Con Air.
