What will you be watching?

Stuck for something to watch this Saturday evening? Not to worry as JOE has compiled a list of the best movies airing on TV tonight.

Below are our picks.

Raiders of the Lost Ark – Film Four – 9pm

In 1936, archaeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) is hired by the US government to find the Ark of the Covenant before Adolf Hitler’s Nazis can obtain its awesome powers.

Now would be a good time to revisit the first entry in the Indiana Jones franchise as production on its fourth sequel is reported to begin next week.

Once Upon a Time in Mexico – Dave – 9pm

The epic finale to Robert Rodriguez’s Desperado Trilogy sees hitman “El Mariachi” (Antonio Banderas) become involved in international espionage involving a psychotic CIA agent (Johnny Depp) and a corrupt Mexican general.

The Predator – Channel 4 – 9pm

When a young boy (Jacob Tremblay) accidentally triggers the universe’s most lethal hunters’ return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled scientist can prevent the end of the human race.

The fourth entry in the popular franchise, The Predator is a tad chaotic and convoluted. That said, co-writer and director Shane Black brings plenty of humour to the movie and the ensemble cast of recognisable faces like Boyd Holbrook, Keegan-Michael Key, Thomas Jane and Trevante Rhoades are a lot of fun.

The Town – RTÉ Two – 9.15pm

This cracking crime thriller is directed by and starring Ben Affleck. It centres on a group of thieves in Boston who rob a bank and hold its assistant manager Claire (Rebecca Hall) hostage. Things however begin to get complicated when one of the crew members falls in love with Claire.

Fans of the likes of Den of Thieves and Heat will certainly enjoy this.

Commando – Channel 4 – 11pm

Retired Special Forces colonel John Matrix (Arnold Schwarzenegger) tries to save his daughter, who was abducted by his former subordinate.

Compared to Arnie’s other 80’s action flicks like Predator and Terminator, Commando falls short. But if you just want to watch Schwarzenegger do his thing, you could do a lot worse.

Predators – ITV 4 – 11pm

Speaking of Predator once again, this pretty solid third entry in the franchise is also on tonight. It sees a group of elite warriors (including Adrien Brody and Topher Grace) parachuted into an unfamiliar jungle to be hunted by members of the franchise’s merciless alien race.

Oasis: Supersonic – RTÉ Two – 11.30pm

This fun documentary charts the formation and rise to fame of Britpop rockers Oasis in the 90s.

The Hurt Locker – BBC One – 11.45pm

Kathryn Bigelow’s tense-as-hell war thriller centres on a US Sergeant (Jeremy Renner) in Iraq assigned to an army bomb squad who is put at odds with his squad mates due to his maverick way of handling his work.

Following its release in 2008, The Hurt Locker won six Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director for Bigelow – making her the first woman to receive the award.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
