Here are the best movies on TV today

movies on TV

It’s Wednesday.

Unfortunately, there are no movies on Irish TV this evening so once again we had to look a little further afield for our movie fix.

Here’s the pick of the bunch this evening.

The Core – Film4 – 6.15pm

The Earth’s core is dying. It’s decided the only way to fix it is to tunnel down and set off some nuclear bombs in the core to fix it.

I’m not proud of it, but I have watched it at least seven times.

On Chesil Beach – BBC Two – 9pm

An adaptation of Ian McEwan’s novel of intimacy and heartbreak, starring Saoirse Ronan and Billy Howle.

Friday Night Lights – Sky Atlantic – 9pm

A great movie in its own right, but the TV series has outshone it and has a greater cult following.

LA Story – Sky Comedy – 9pm

An entertaining watch starring Steve Martin and Sarah Jessica Parker. If you don’t believe me, it also got 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Girls Trip – Film4 – 9pm

I haven’t seen it, and the reviews are split down the middle on this one. Make up your own mind.

“This sleazy, gal pals gone wild flick is anything but empowering to female audience members—or anyone else, for that matter.” – Plugged In

“In the affably amusing, sometimes spittingly funny Girls Trip, a weekend getaway brings trouble, laughs and sisterhood.” – The New York Times

Disturbia – Film4 – 11.25pm

Shia LaBeouf is under house arrest and begins spying on his neighbours to pass the time. He begins to suspect one of his neighbours is harbouring a dark secret.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
