What we know about Black Mirror season 8

Black Mirror is on its way back. An eighth season of Charlie Brooker's dystopian anthology is officially in production, according to Variety, with cameras having rolled over the summer.

Netflix has not set a launch date, so Irish subscribers face a wait before it lands on the streamer here.

Brooker had already tipped his hand earlier this year, promising the series would return in typically ominous fashion.

"Black Mirror will return, and hopefully it'll be more 'Black Mirror' than ever," said Charlie Brooker.

Brooker is writing and executive producing the new run alongside Bisha K. Ali.

Jessica Rhoades, Annabel Jones and Louise Sutton also executive produce, with Mark Kinsella serving as co-executive producer, and the series is licensed by Banijay Rights.

Beyond that, the episode count, cast and premise are being kept firmly under wraps, rather in keeping with the show's whole approach.

It is not the only renewal Netflix has waved through either, with Variety reporting that Being Gordon Ramsay and Legends have both been handed further seasons.

No Irish release date, then, and no trailer, but the gaps between series have been longer before.

In the meantime there is plenty else landing, from this month's new films on Netflix Ireland to the rest of the movies and TV slate.
