Pour one out for the great Marty Funkhouser.
Actor, comedian and writer Bob Einstein, perhaps best known for his turn as Larry David’s sharp friend and rival Marty Funkhouser on Curb Your Enthusiasm, has died.
He was 76 years of age.
Einstein was also famous for creating the character of ‘Super Dave’ Osborne, a relentless but accident prone daredevil who appeared on Smothers Brothers and other variety shows in the 1960s.
His death was confirmed by his brother; fellow actor and comedian Albert Brooks, on Twitter on Wednesday evening:
R.I.P. My dear brother Bob Einstein. A great brother, father and husband. A brilliantly funny man. You will be missed forever.

Tributes were quickly paid, with Curb co-star Richard Lewis hailing an incredible career and Einstein’s “excruciatingly brilliant” performance on their show.
I’m in shock.
I knew him forever. ♥️to his loved ones. His long career is hard to match. His role on #curbyourenthusiasm was excruciatingly brilliant! Our cast and crew will be devastated.
He was so loved. He told me how much he loved LD and Curb. RIP buddy. @HBO pic.twitter.com/G8f5PoffuF— Richard Lewis (@TheRichardLewis) January 2, 2019
