First reviews for Season 5 of BoJack Horseman are calling it “the best thing on TV right now”

Rory Cashin

The smartest, funniest, darkest show on Netflix is back very soon.

With a voice cast including Will Arnett, Alison Brie, Paul F. Tompkins, Amy Sedaris, and Aaron Paul, and this season’s guest stars Aparna Nancherla, Rami Malek, Hong Chau, Issa Rae, Stephanie Beatriz, Brian Tyree Henry, and Laura Linney (not to mention Character Actress Margo Martindale), BoJack Horseman has always spoiled us with talent.

We’ve previously stated that one of the show’s episodes was one of the greatest episodes of TV ever made, and we don’t make those kinds of statements lightly.

To put it bluntly, BoJack Horseman is a genius piece of entertainment, a show that had a shaky, finding-its-feet first season, before going on to the give us three seasons of blinding brilliance.

With the arrival of the fifth season on Netflix, with BoJack finally getting the career resurgence he’s longed for (but at what cost?), the early reviews have begun to arrive, and they are nothing short of gushingly positive:

“This season of BoJack Horseman isn’t all ennui and agony. It’s also slathered with sex jokes and groan-inducing euphemisms, unrepentantly childish and deftly delivered. … The show’s animation has become increasingly complex and detailed with each new season.” – Slant

“It’s not only, somehow, the funniest and saddest show on television (or Netflix, whatever), it’s also the most poignant and emotionally relevant.” – UPROXX

“As extraordinary as the voice cast might be, it’s the quality of the storytelling which keeps our fascination. Even in the episodes which revel in delightful full-fledged farce, there is such depth of feeling to BoJack, such investment in its message. But the show’s beating heart also still somehow manages to stay engaged with its big ideas.” – Indiewire

“In its fifth season, BoJack Horseman confirms its status as Netflix’s best TV show, a brash showbiz satire that’s also a religious act of small-screen devotion.” – Entertainment Weekly

All episodes in the show’s fifth season will be available to watch on Netflix from Friday 14 September.
