Our TV movie pick for tonight (Friday, 30 January) is Bone Tomahawk, the incredible 2015 Western thriller.
The film stars Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight), Matthew Fox (Lost), Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring) and Richard Jenkins (Burn After Reading) as men of the Old West who embark on a quest to rescue a group of their townsfolk who were abducted by a cannibalistic clan.
Also part of the movie's great cast are David Arquette (Scream), Evan Jonigkeit (The Empty Man), Fred Melamed (A Serious Man), Lili Simmons (Banshee), Michael Paré (Streets of Fire), Sean Young (Blade Runner), Sid Haig (The Devil's Rejects) and Zahn McClarnon (Dark Winds).
Bone Tomahawk was the directorial debut of author S. Craig Zahler, who would go on to make the acclaimed cult thrillers Brawl in Cell Block 99 and Dragged Across Concrete.
Carrying over into cinema his novelistic and rich eye for character and detail, his debut film begins as an exciting and often funny men-on-a-mission Western, before making a sharp turn in the final stretch of the movie into absolutely nerve-shredding horror.
Upon release, the movie received rave reviews from critics, as evidenced by its 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes. That said, the Western's latter section is definitely not for the squeamish.
Bone Tomahawk is airing on TV tonight on Film4 at 11.40pm. It is also available to rent on Apple TV for 99c.
