A brand new dark Irish comedy and 5 more movies and shows to watch this week

Rory Cashin

All the new stuff you should definitely watch – or definitely avoid – this weekend…

We’re guessing you’ve all watched the new Bond movie, and it seems like you’ve all been watching Squid Game, so what else is there to check out?

Well, that is what we’re here to answer!

The latest episode of The Big Reviewski can be watched in full below or you can skip to the cinema reviews (3:35), home entertainment recommendations (11:00), and classic re-watches (18:00).

Here are the new cinema releases, which will all be available on the big screens around Ireland from Friday, 8 October.

THE ADDAMS FAMILY 2

The sequel to the hit 2019 animated movie sees the all-star voice cast – including Charlize Theron, Oscar Isaac, Chloe-Grace Moretz and Nick Kroll – return for another round of family-friendly ooky spooky adventures.

DEADLY CUTS

This North Dublin-set dark comedy tells the story of a group of hairdressers who turn to violence as a means to fight back against a local criminal gang who are trying to squeeze their salon for every cent they’ve got.

And now on to the stuff you can watch at home this week, starting with…

VOYAGERS

Colin Farrell is the scientist who brings a group of humanity’s best and brightest into the far reaches of space in the hope of finding our species a new home. But secrets can’t be kept for long in their new claustrophobic environment, and it isn’t long before all hell has broken loose.

Voyagers is available to watch on NOW from Friday, 8 October, and you can check out our interview with some of the movie’s stars right here:

BLACK WIDOW

Set in the action between Civil War and Infinity War, Scar-Jo finally gets her own solo adventure, bringing along her on-screen family (Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, David Harbour) for the ride.

Black Widow is available with your regular Disney+ subscription from Wednesday, 6 October, and you can check out our interview with one of the movie’s stars right here:

And finally, the amazingly exciting Pizza And A Movie section, which will be focusing on spooky movies for the month of October…

Here are this week’s picks, with the vote once again going up on JOE’s Instagram channel, so keep an eye out on that to have your say!

Rory’s Pick – HALLOWEEN (1978)

What better movie to celebrate the imminent arrival of Halloween than… well… Halloween! With 2018’s Halloween sequel Halloween Kills arriving in cinemas this month, you actually do kind of need to watch both that version and this 1978 version as homework before checking out the new one!

Halloween (1978) has been added to Netflix this month as part of their new spooky movies collection.

Eoghan’s Pick – THE CABIN IN THE WOODS

For those who love movies that are kinda spooky but not TOO spooky, then this horror-comedy might be the one for you. Chris Hemsworth and his “teenage” pals head to the titular abode, only to discover it is at the centre of an ancient evil ritual.

The Cabin in the Woods is available to watch on Netflix right now.
