You can-can see Moulin Rouge back on the big screen in Ireland for one week only

Tissues to the ready!

Hot off the back of his take on Romeo & Juliet with Leo and Claire, director Baz Luhrmann essentially made it again, but against the backdrop of 19th century Paris’ most opulent night club, and with one of the the most immediately catchy soundtracks helping to high-kick us all into a blur of heightened emotions.

Moulin Rouge! finds Nicole Kidman as the star of the titular establishment, and Ewan McGregor as a poet who falls in love with her. But she is kind of already due to be wed to Richard Roxburgh’s Duke, and he doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who will give up something willingly…

Released in 2001, the film went on to achieve huge commercial success (it made back over three times its budget at the worldwide box office), as well as winning Best Picture – Musical/Comedy at the Golden Globes, plus two Oscars for Best Costume Design and Best Art Direction (although how it didn’t win Best Song for ‘Come What May’ is a total mystery).

It is still one of the great modern romantic movies, so now seems like as good a time as any to catch it again on the big screen, as Omniplex will be screening it as part of their #BringItBack campaign.

From Friday 11 January to Thursday 17 January, Moulin Rouge! will be shown on Omniplex screens all around the country, with tickets priced at just €8.

Head here to book in advance, as we imagine they’ll sell out pretty quickly!
