It’s hardly a huge surprise in fairness.

In somewhat inevitable news, Chris Evans has been confirmed as the new host of Top Gear following Jeremy Clarkson’s controversial departure earlier this year.

The BBC confirmed this evening that Evans has been given the gig, penning a three-year contract as part of an all-new line-up on the popular motoring show.

Commenting on the news, Evans said: “I’m thrilled, Top Gear is my favourite programme of all time.

“Created by a host of brilliant minds who love cars and understand how to make the massively complicated come across as fun, devil-may-care and effortless. When in fact, of course, it’s anything but and that’s the genius of Top Gear’s global success.

“I promise I will do everything I possibly can to respect what has gone on before and take the show forward.”

Production on a new series of Top Gear will start in the next few weeks and it will return to the BBC and overseas in early 2016.
