Christmas Day movies on TV

36 movies to choose from on this special occasion…

So, this is Christmas.

Christmas Day, to be precise.

It’s all fun and games until you’re wrecked, full of food and drink, or a massive, totally avoidable row emerges.

Retreating to the couch for about seven hours is usually a good shout.

You’ll be wanting some movies, so.

Here’s a bumper list of all of the movies on TV that caught our eye on this Christmas Day…

Singin’ in the Rain – RTÉ 2 – 12.25pm

What a glorious feeling.

White Christmas – Channel 4 – 12.55pm

Bing Crosby brings the seasonal feeling.

Little Women – Film4 – 1.35pm

The 1994 version.

Back to the Future – RTÉ One – 1.55pm

The original and the best.

Despicable Me 2 – RTÉ 2 – 2.10pm

The second one.

Mary Poppins Returns – BBC One – 3.10pm

She’s back!

Spartacus – ITV4 – 3.10pm

There seems to be some mistake. I’m Spartacus.

The LEGO Batman Movie – RTÉ 2 – 3.40pm

The Dark Knight in cute miniature form.

Chicken Run – ITV2 – 3.50pm

Egg-shaped animated frolics for all the family.

Bumblebee – Film4 – 3.55pm

Genuinely charming Transformers spin-off.

Paddington 2 – RTÉ One – 4.10pm

The continuing adventures of the most adorable bear in the world.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom – ITV2 – 5.40pm

Might be time to accept that these theme parks are a bad idea, guys.

The Grinch – RTÉ One – 6.01pm

Benedict Cumberbatch edition.

Independence Day – Film4 – 6.10pm

Not to be confused with the sequel, which is dreadful.

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York – RTÉ 2 – 6.45pm

The second one.

Into The West – TG4 – 6.45pm

Once-revered Irish adventure from the VHS era.

The Italian Job – ITV4 – 6.55pm

Michael Caine vintage.

The Devil Wears Prada – E4 – 7.05pm

Meryl Streep is the boss from hell.

Mamma Mia!: Here We Go Again – ITV2 – 8pm

The second one.

Rocky – ITV4 – 9pm

The first one.

Nobody puts Baby in a corner.

The third one.

Should get you in the mood for the new one.

Recipient of the 2019 Academy Award for Best Film Editing.

Strictly for die-hard fans of the series, only.

Denzel Washington vs Russell Crowe in Ridley Scott’s crime saga.

Nothing says Christmas like a Harrison Ford horror movie!

Last Christmas – BBC One – 12.05am

Emilia Clarke tries to sort her life out as a hilariously obvious twist beckons.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel – RTÉ One – 12.20am

TripAdvisor’s favourite movie, probably.

Slumdog Millionaire – Channel 4 – 12.20am

Dev Patel is in this one, and the one above at the exact same time. Weird.

In Bruges – Film4 – 1.45am

Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson do their ‘bumbling hitmen’ thing.

The graveyard shift for the Coen Brothers classic.
